There will be occasions when a small aperture will be required to achieve the required depth of field for a subject, but which, in turn, creates a distracting background by bringing elements in the background into focus. Also, subjects will not always be in the best position and therefore the background will not be inappropriate—for example, a flower growing up against a fence. In these cases, it is possible to use image-processing software such as Adobe Photoshop to select the subject, and then apply a blur filter to the unselected background. The Gaussian blur filter in particular can be adjusted so that the amount of blurring can be tailored specifically to the image. Successful selection of the subject will depend on its characteristics: Does it have hard edges or fine hairs, for example? | ||
